In the 1500, a theologian named, John Calvin made a big impact to what we call “worship.” (You might be wondering, what’s up with all this history... the 1500?! yes, yes... Just stay with me a little longer, I promise there is a point to all this! :P ) So, back to Calvin. Now, there was another theologian by the name of Zwingli who did not allow singing in worship. I won’t go into all the details but feel free to wikipedia it if you’d like!

Anyway, Calvin was a huge fan of wanting singing in worship and he based it on Psalm 98 (you can look it up if you’d like!). So, basically, he noted that to capture the emotion of the Psalm, music should be used to express what is going on in the heart!

And believe it or not, in our generation, in 2010, we are still using not only music but many different art forms to express our hearts! Calvin... you the man! Good call!

So, what does this have to do with MS?

We believe that the heart expression is important for a particular people at a particular time (I’m not sure if I made this up or if I got this from someone else... but whatever the case, it’s a very helpful thought). And in this century, especially in 2010, music and dance and anything visual is this generation’s heart expression. What was once expressed through oral communication or written manuscripts, is now showcased through a song on youtube or in our case, bringing hip hop and dance into a means of worship!

Yes, we could just dance to music and use that to express our faith. But, we’d rather present Jesus through a story that anyone could understand and hopefully relate to... while using dance to open hearts up and just make the whole thing a little bit FUN! :)

All throughout history, stories had power. It defines you. It motivates you. It changes you. A deep movie could make you re-evaluate your life. A heart felt novel takes you away to a different world. Stories... it moves people... souls. And we believe the story of Jesus could do amazingly more!! Every single one of us  have been and are still affected by the real story of Jesus and we humbly and unashamedly want to share that story with the world!
